Unwrapping the Greatest Gift

I have had such a rough week…I posted about Sponge Bob yesterday!?  The start to this advent season was so wonderfully picture-perfect…then this week I was struck with constant discouragement coming from every side.  My husband reminded me that our oldest child is taking part in a huge spiritual milestone this Sunday in her baptism…why wouldn’t there be opposition?  But of course!  He took time to pray for me specifically this morning and it was exactly what I needed.  Thank you, Lord!

I decided to read my devotional for today in Ann Vosamp’s family devotional, ‘Unwrapping The Greatest Gift’ for some different perspective.  It was the story of how God had hand-selected David to be Israel’s most beloved king…and he was the kid-brother no one would have expected.  Fast-forward 14 generations another long-awaited King came along that no one would have expected…born in a stable and placed in a manger.  I love that while everyone else looks merely at the outside, overlooking the heart of the matter, God sees what’s on the inside.  He gave me exactly what I needed today to show me that He sees me in the midst of this battle.

I don’t know what you’re facing, friend…but I do know that God does!  As you prepare Him room, I pray you allow Him to enter that sacred space in your heart that only He can fill so you can unwrap the greatest gift!

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”  Samuel 16:7
