Our family has had several different types of Advent devotionals in the past, but this year’s could be my favorite. I happened onto it while strolling through Sam’s Club of all places! It’s called The 25 Day of Christmas – A family Devotional to Help you Celebrate Jesus by James Merritt. Each day there is a scripture passage, a short devotional and an activity to do as a family. The very first day took us back to the beginning in Genesis 3 and how the promise of a Savior started just after the fall! Being a lover of God’s Word and how Jesus is weaved through the entire thing I absolutely loved this! Maxwell said “Wow! I didn’t realize the Christmas story started in Genesis!” Thank you, Lord!
Last night we started lighting our Advent candles beginning with the HOPE candle. This is the word the Lord gave me this year for Christmas so it was a special night for me. I am looking forward to unwrapping all the Lord has packed into the little word that means so much this Christmas season. As we look back to what it meant for Him to come to earth as a baby to be our Savior and await His return, this word is what we cling to.
This past week I saw this picture at Meijer and it struck me. These traditions that we do with our children have so much meaning behind them. I pray that they will be more than merely going through the motions for them. That Jesus is truly not only the Reason for the season…but the Reason for everything and that He will be the solid Rock upon which they stand. As you navigate this Advent season with your family and prepare Him room….
