I often get questions from women, mainly moms, about what they can wear to look cute everyday…as in looking good without having to get “all dolled up”. Thank the LORD that long gone are the days of the mom jeans and there is no reason why we can’t look great everyday. While it can seem overwhelming…it doesn’t have to be hard and certainly isn’t rocket science. Getting a few fool-proof options is easier than you think…and I’m here to help! So in a special edition of Five Fashionably Fabulous Finds Friday let’s push aside those sloppy boots and frumpy winter parkas and get started!
My mission this week is to give you a few classic, go-to outfit options for Springtime. My own personal fool-proof look typically contains a jacket to pull it all together. I like jackets to be contrasting in color with whatever is on the lower half…please…no denim tuxedos! During the Spring months I usually wear a full pant while in summertime it’s a skirt or dress…and a light/midtone underneath with a pop of color in the accessories and…of course…the shoes! Let me show you 3 of my favorite looks and just a few more than 5 finds…bonus!
I love myself a great pair of jeans but for a perfectly polished look I would also suggest a pair of chinos.
For spring I like a lighter stone color but don’t be afraid to experiment with other neutrals like a darker khaki or even white! Forget the fashion faux pas of white before Labor Day…this is 2011 and 3 months to wear white just isn’t enough for me! Dress for the weather, I say! Selecting a fit is very important because you need to be comfortable in them to do everything from running errands and picking up kiddos to playing at the park. I love flare legs right now but in a chino I would suggest a straight leg for a timeless, go-t0o, fool-proof piece like these Classic Khaki Pants from Gap. They’re a great deal on sale for $39.99, too! Always lookin’ out my friends!
With these pants I would suggest a darker wash denim jacket and a striped tee underneath. Nothing says Spring like nautical looks and I love to throw in a pop of red…it’s my favorite combo!
These adorable wedges from Payless are a perfect pairing with this easy, comfortable and classic outfit…and did I mention fool-proof…we’re talking for years to come!
Throw on this beaded vintage necklace you’re ready to head out the door in style!
Another look I love centers around a cropped white denim jacket. It sounds like a lot of denim but when in white it gives a completely different impression to an outfit. I have this one from Old Navy and I pair it with all kinds of things…from dresses to skirts to pants. It is a staple in my Spring and Summer wardrobe. I love pairing it with a dark wash denim. My favorite is my dark skinny jeans from
Aeropastale OR my American Eagle Super Dark Artist Flares alike with a
purple ruffle top like this one from Lauren Conrad’s Collection at Kohl’s…and don’t forget your coupons! Throw on a metallic wedge sandal like these ones from
Target (for $20!) and you can’t go wrong! And don’t forget your adorable flower ring in Passion from Chrissy! Love it!
For my last look which is a little bit more casual (which I am actually rocking today) I suggest a military jacket in army green. This Aryn K. jacket from Piperlime is a great option…and on sale!
Pair this with jeggings and to soften it a bit try a silk cami like this one from J. Crew or a plain gray favorite tank (a MUST in my wardrobe) with a colorful unique scarf,
throw some ballet flats like these from DSW and a pair of simple (but beautiful) pearl stud earrings (which if you don’t have you should…pearls are gorgeous, classic and not very expensive. I suggest DeVries Jewelers and I am great at giving hints to husbands for birthdays & anniversaries!) and there you have it…you’re good to go!
I hope these outfit ideas are helpful for the busy lady on the go. Next week I will be listing 10 key can’t-live-without pieces from my wardrobe that have stayed tried and true from life before children to pregnancy to postpartum. Think carid’s, sunnies & skinnies…and I am going to narrow it down to ONE pair of shoes for spring and summer…now that will take me a week in itself! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! For those of you traveling, prayers for a safe and peaceful return! Happy shopping and remember while it is fabulously fun to look beautiful on the outside, true beauty that shines through from the inside is what really matters! XOXO
