I have never been one to enjoy participating in sports…but I do enjoy watching them! Once my babies started playing…oh boy…watch out. I am SO into their games that I despise all distractions. The phone gets away and if their siblings aren’t paying attention to one another’s games, they had better find something to keep them occupied because mama is into it! I get all intense and loud and…you know…that mom. I don’t think I’ve embarrassed them too much though…yet.
After church today Maxwell had his first basketball game of the season. We were so excited…myself especially for an indoor sport…and one that I am not in charge of helping run…like football. While I love football, the season can get a little long and basketball picked up right where it ended. So it is so nice not to be out in the wind and rain, especially on a day like today. We love Max’s team too…great kids, great coaches and even better yet…great parents!
Max naturally picks up sports pretty easily even though he isn’t a super intense athlete. He really enjoys being a part of the team and dedicates himself to working hard. He’s ok not being in where all the action is at all times, but he is an excellent supporter of his team mates. Today he made a couple points and I was standing directly behind the backboard up on the track overlooking the gym. I had the perfect vantage point to see him score. It was awesome! What a way to start the season. They played hard and lost one game and won the next…so proud of these boys!
I’ve heard before that life can be compared to a game. It got me thinking…in the kingdom of God we are up against the forces of darkness. I’m certainly not in a lead role in where all the action is much of the time, but I really hope to be a good supporter of those who are. Am I willing to put in the hard work? Do I set my peers up to win by praying for them and helping them in their assignments? Do I take a chance and go for the shot…or do I get cold feet? I, like Max, am thrilled to be part of this team and while we know Who is going to win…it doesn’t mean I get to ride this out on the bench. I need to be out there and working toward the win. Today I am thankful that God chose me to be part of His team…and I am thankful to be challenged by our son Max to be a good team player alongside those who are laboring for the Lord.
