Day 3- A cord of 3 strands

Nathan and I have been married for 17 years today.  It was a beautiful, sunny Saturday…much like today in fact!  It got me thinking about marriage in general and I remembered what someone said once.  She said that marriage actually belongs to God.  I had never really thought of it that way.  I wonder…if we all thought that way, how it would effect our lives and marriages for the better?

So much of life can be seen right from the very beginning of it all.  When I read through Genesis I am amazed at how much I learn.  God created everything…plain and simple…marriage included.  Then…we screwed it up.  But there is hope…in Him alone!  I wonder…if we look at everything as belonging to God, wouldn’t it make life more simple?  Then our goal would be to be good stewards of the gifts He gives us because they actually belong to the Giver.  I feel like it’s easier to do this with our children, our time, our finances, our home, our business, our possessions…but with our marriage it’s harder for some reason-?  I think it’s because there are actually 3 people involved…and it takes much effort to keep the relationship aligned as it should be.

Benham-10110I guess this is more of a thought-provoking concept than anything.  In the coming hours, days, weeks and months I want to look at my marriage specifically as belonging to God…not to us…and just see how viewing it through that lens will change my perspective and how by doing so we will grow closer to one another and to Him.  Today on this beautiful 3rd of November, I am so thankful for our marriage and what God is teaching me in and through it.  It feels like we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface of what it really means.  To be continued, friends….

Though one may be overpowered,
    two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
