So often we ask our children…”What do you want for Christmas?” in an effort to give them their heart’s desire. Have you ever wondered…what is the desire of God’s heart? My mom bought the gift set “What God Wants for Christmas” for our children when Em was 3 and Max was 1. I absolutely love it! It is a wonderful poem telling the Christmas story written by Barbara Rainey. The poem goes through each character in little boxes to set up a nativity and the last box, #7 poses the question…”What does God want for Christmas?” Inside the box is a mirror…sniffle…”it’s YOU, the one he created!” I cry every time! The God of all the universe simply wants you…and me…for Christmas! Profound, isn’t it!? What an amazing way to present the good news of the Christmas story, that Jesus came into the world so that God could have His greatest desire…us…for Christmas!
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:3-4
