Praise the LORD we are in the home stretch of our basement-finishing project…the carpet is being installed tonight! I have to say that I am so very proud of my wonderful husband! Deemed “Handy Daddy” by our kiddos he did almost all of the work himself. While it has taken 4 1/2 years from start to finish with still many finishing touches yet to do…it was well worth it and totally in the Lord’s timing…and an immense blessing! Given my Real Estate and new construction background you’d think I would have understood sweat equity. Now I understand sweat equity because my blood, sweat and tears went into this project and we are almost there! What I would love to share with you today are a few great and affordable finds that I’ve found recently for the home!
One of the first things I always suggest when someone wants to give their home a fresh look is to find an “inspiration”. Mine usually revolve around a throw pillow for some reason. Our basement pallet however can be summed up by this gorgeous rug from Target…one of my favorite places to find reasonable pieces and right now Target is hosting an online home event with lots of great sales! This piece in particular pulls all of the rooms on the basement level together flawlessly! I love it!
After selecting an inspiration its paint time! I’ve tried many different brands of paint and my absolute favorite is Behr available at the Home Depot. My color scheme took an act of congress but it was finally passed with great persuasion! Blue and brown compliment each other so well and that is what the family room, the largest room in the lower level consists of…an Asian-Inspired Tropical Retreat to be exact! My favorite finish is a flat enamel…easy to touch up with little ones without repainting an entire wall…and it’s washable!
As previously stated there’s just something about a throw pillow that ties a room together. I have an olive love seat that we will (hopefully) still be using in our family room and I needed to tie it together with the rest of the room. I found these pillows at the Home Depot with Emalynn one day that tied everything up perfectly! FYI…I also found them at Meijer for just a few cents cheaper post-purchase!
Flooring for us was made so easy by our friends at Abby Town & Country Carpets in Sparta! We purchased all of our flooring affordably including porcelain tile and 3 carpet selections as well as grout, padding and all of the other supplies we needed to install the flooring ourselves…or rather…Nathan and his dad and uncle. I would highly suggest Abbey Town & Country Carpet for your flooring needs!
As a bargain shopper I have to share with you, besides Target, my favorite places to find accessories, artwork and other unique decor pieces. Hit Alpine my friends and don’t miss T.J. Maxx or Marshalls! While some categorize the contents as a big pile of rejects I have found many pieces that I not only would not have been able to afford at full-price but were no longer available in retail stores. The window coverings in my home were purchased for less than $15 per window…and we’re talking BIG windows from what is now affectionately called “Teej”. And if you’re looking for shoes…just from experience…Marshalls never disappoints…just sayin!
As much as we are so incredibly thankful for our home, we know that the only reason it is a home and not just a house is because of God’s overwhelming grace in our life. While we love this home as it is a blessing from the Lord and feel convicted to take care of it with the utmost respect as it really belongs to Him…we know it cannot compare to the place He’s prepared for us in heaven. Some think my house in heaven will be in the shape of a shoe…or I will just have a huge closet filled with them…while Nathan just hopes we live next door to each other…and me…I have no clue …but I can’t wait to get there and find out!
