I saw the sharpest, shiniest, sparkling red Corvette rolling down the road the other day…the only word to describe it…sexy. I’m not saying I could ever really pull that off but I do have some smokin” red high heels and, well, red hair so…you know…could be fun…someday maybe. Ever since having babies a date night car has been on my “that would be fun list”…especially since a minivan is most likely on the horizon….and you can’t get any sexier than the Great American Sports Car with a supercharged 638 horsepower LS9 engine baby…the fastest production car EVER! Today my confession of a stay-at-home mom is my list of what would be fun…if however illogical.
Okay…so obviously I have a thing for cars…alway have. This is sort-of embarrassing but as a girl raised on Nascar I once, and this was before I met the love of my life, had a bit of a little school girl crush on a racecar driver. Now I’m not going to say which one to spare myself complete and utter humiliation BUT I will say that I was just as attracted to the hot car as the cute guy…if not more so. It would be SO fun for me is to actually drive a racecar! I could have had the opportunity once. Nathan won a trip to the Richard Petty Driving Experience at the Brickyard…the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! Talk about a dream come true! It was May 2005 and I just happened to be 6 months pregnant with Emalynn so there was no racecar driving for this mama. I felt so cheated…me…I’m the Nascar fan…not him. Oh well…maybe someday hot-lapping a racecar would be fun!
Another thing we think would be fun, and much less dangerous than driving insanely fast, is to have a family cottage for our parents, siblings and friends to enjoy with us. My idea is a little cottage on Brooks Lake…Nathan’s idea is a large castle on the Big Lake…as in Lake Michigan. We’re obviously worlds apart on the idea but coming from a Real Estate background waterfront property is a great investment and hello…fun! As self-proclaimed staycationers we aren’t big on vacationing so sticking around West Michigan is where it’s at for us and it is just breathtakingly beautiful here…so whether it be in Newaygo or Norton Shores it wouldn’t really matter but a cottage (or a castle) would be fun.
Upon the news of another little bundle of blue coming into our family this summer both Maxwell and Emalynn were excited about their new cousin however, being 5 and 3 they informed me that they just want more. Max wants another baby brother and Emalynn wants a baby sister. I told them I wasn’t quite sure God had those same plans but the perfect solution according to them was…twins! Everybody wins, right? They do run in the family as my grandmother’s 4th pregnancy was twin girls and…it does “skip a generation”. I have no idea if any of that is really true or not but with each of my pregnancies my mother-in-law has always said in her eternally cheerful optimistic excitement “Well…twins would be fun!” I would have to agree…though she would be the one who could leave the babies here and go home. This is pretty much an “in my dreams” list so what the heck…why not! Where I would put them and how this would come to be and getting Daddy to agree with me…all up to God but nevertheless…twins would be fun! And if not for me…there’s always a shot with grandchildren!
Last night Nathan and I were talking about heaven and he asked me…”What do you think we’ll do?” My guess is that it will be like when we’re all together with our family to celebrate a holiday…like Christmas…and we have nowhere else we have to, or would want to be. We have no time limit or cell phone calls to answer…no emails to check or work to be done. Everything has been prepared and whether we’re sharing a meal, playing a game or simply talking we’re just enjoying our time together. Just like our grandparents love nothing more than when the entire family is together…I imagine God will feel the same. All of His children in one place…and what will that be like for us? Well…my feable human mind cannot possibly fathom its glory but I know there will be nowhere else we would ever want to be, there will be no time limit or emails to check and everything will be prepared so we will just enjoy my time and it won’t really matter what we do except celebrate Jesus…better than the best Christmas ever because we’ll be with HIM! Now that WILL be fun! All of the things on the “in my dreams/fun list” (minus the two additional requested family members of course) won’t last and at that point won’t even matter. It really puts into my perspective what would be fun and completely changes my definition of the word. So the next time I see that sexy Corvette rolling down the road I hope it reminds me of what WILL be fun…not the would be’s.
