Shhh…don’t tell my father! I think he’ll have a heart attack! But this former Fox News junkie has had it! While most of my views are of conservative nature, I’m not sure I want to be labeled that way. A couple of my views are even (gasp) left…now if my Grandma heard that she would have a massive coronary. Don’t get me wrong, I love this country and I thank God for it everyday. I believe in supporting the brave men and women who give of themselves so we can be free. But what is free? I don’t think our founding fathers gave up everything to come here committing treason against the King of England so we could bicker and argue about who has better ideas about restoring the “American Dream”. I don’t think the answer to this country’s problems lies in politics.
Overall, what are Americans up in arms about? The economy. Long gone are the days when just about everyone could obtain the “American Dream” by landing a factory job right out of high school even with mediocre work ethic that paid them well enough to support the house, 2 cars, the kids and the paid vacations with health benefits and a pension as if it were owed to them. How can it be that a 4-year degree doesn’t automatically land someone a six figure income? How can it be that we have to compete for a J-O-B nevermind a career? I don’t feel sorry for us, not one bit. Americans are looking to the government to just make everything okay again and give us a wonderful life. Sorry, but I think our government has proven that is not going to happen.
Last night in his State of the Union address President Obama took my breath away…and not in a good way. He called the United States of America the “light of the world”. Are you kidding me? I’m sorry Mr. President but there is ONE Light of the world and it is not the good ol’ US of A! His name is Jesus. In John 8:12 Jesus said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” I had a hard time concentrating on the President’s speech after that. How could my President directly refute God’s Word? It broke my heart. I kept hearing words like “clean energy” and “innovation” and “infrastructure”. Here’s some clean energy for you…try reading THE BIBLE!
We’re in one hot mess America…and I’m not talking about our mounting deficit and soaring unemployment rates. If we think for one second that President Obama or any other elected official is the answer we have another thing coming. The government wants to use our “natural resources” to create “clean energy”. That is God’s creation. Things like the sun and rivers, streams and oceans…those things we take for granted…those things are His. If we don’t obey His word, why do you think He will bless us? And to think President Obama wants us to trust the government with the future of our children. I don’t think so! I trust the Lord with my children and no one else. I would rather spend every moment of everyday teaching them about the Word of God than waste time on global warming or being politically correct…how about we be biblically correct.
This is supposed to be “the land of the free”. But we seem awfully enslaved to the “American Dream”. Who do you think provided us with this beautiful land? Who gave us our freedom? Have we forgotten that it is by God’s grace we even have a United States of America…the greatest country in the world? I am proud to be an American…but I am an American second. I am a Christian first. I am first a citizen of heaven, then a citizen of the USA. Like it or not, this beautiful land is only temporary for it will eventually pass away (Revelation 21:1).
So were does this leave me? How will I ever survive without belonging to a political party? Do I solemnly swear to uphold the constitution? Absolutely! After I first uphold God’s Word. But what about the very First Amendment, the Freedom of Religion you ask? What about the “Separation of Church and State”? How can you say Jesus is the only way? My answer is simple…every single American has the right to the freedom of religion and because of that, yes, there needs to be a separation of church and state. But there is a reason our currency says “IN GOD WE TRUST” and our Pledge of Allegiance says “One nation under God”. Last night I had an awakening. If it is IN GOD WE TRUST then we need to trust that His Word is the only Truth we each should personally live by in all we do from how we raise our children, to how we perform at our jobs (politicians included), to how we love those around us. You can’t tell me that wouldn’t make a difference in our American society…”the answer” you might say. I suppose that’s the beauty of America. You have the right to choose to be right…and you have the right to be wrong.
Hello Jennifer! I’m momplus4kids from {momslikeme}!! I just stumbled upon your blog and I’m trying to “friend” you on Facebook! I enjoyed reading your post and I look forward to getting to know you more! Hopefully we can stay in contact! Blessing to you! ♥ Amy
Hi, Amy! I’m so glad you found it! 🙂 So great to hear from you!
Amen, Jennifer! Our country was founded on biblical principles and we have strayed away. Bob and I have similar conversations to your blog on a regular basis. Why do we feel like the outcasts/oddballs in all of this? And how do we overcome this new way of thinking?
I think we have to start with how we raise our children…raising them to take personal responsibility, getting involved in their education, praying for wisdom in parenting, teaching them biblical principals so they know what God thinks about…well, everything…and constantly learning more about God’s Word ourselves.
