A Sweet, Sweet Sound

One of the sweetest things my children tell me is “Mmm…you’re the best cook mom.  This is a GOOD dinner!”  Nathan and I  joke that if we slather anything in barbecue sauce our kids will devour it!  Not just any barbecue sauce…”mama’s special super duper” barbecue sauce!  Today I’m going to share with you the recipe that has become my secret weapon!  It started as a recipe for chili meatballs that I got from my mother-in-law that after a few improvisations seemed to get better and better.   So…here you go!

1 – 12 oz. Bottle Chili Sauce (Heinz or store brand)
1-14 oz. Can Jellied Cranberry Sauce
1 Tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce

That’s it!  Three ingredients that make any weeknight or potluck dinner taste fabulous!  The flavor combination of the tang and slight spice of the chili sauce combined with the, yup, sweetness of the cranberry sauce make this irresistible!  I usually simmer this in a sauce pan on low-medium heat for 5-10 minutes before pouring it over whatever type of meat I’m cooking.  Another thing I couldn’t live without these days is my crock pot because the longer this stuff cooks, the better it is…and leftovers…even better!

So what can you use this for?  Let me tell you!  It’s great over a 2 lb. bag of fully-cooked meatballs (to which I used to make from scratch….but honestly the last time I did it was 2 babies ago!), 2-3 packages of cocktail sausages (my favorite are the kind with cheese inside), a 2 lb. pork loin for the best barbeques pulled pork sandwiches, chicken (whole or boneless, skinless breasts), and I’ve even used it in chili and pastas and ribs…to quote Rachael Ray… “YUMO!”

Now while every morsel of whatever your pour this over will get eaten, I must warn you…for everything sweet sometimes the bittersweet can occur!  While your husband will rave about your cooking, it has been knows to cause a distinct, unpleasant odor the next day!  Don’t say I didn’t warn you!  What I do is make sure I’m up, dressed, ready and OUT of the bathroom before Nathan wakes up! 😉  Just sayin’….the fact that it makes my children so happy and they actually clean their plates is more than worth a few minutes of having to leave the bathroom fan on!

Tomorrow…Loaded Baked Potato Soup…stay tuned and enjoy!
